Next-Level Goal Setting

Updated: Jun 22, 2023

When setting your business/performance goals for the year ahead, how will your create noticeable impact? Year-on-year you deliver on your goals to improve the business in your area of accountability. If you want to stand apart from the crowd and be noticed and respected for the contribution you make, then you should consider the scope of impact in your goal setting.

Set goals that have you engaging with stakeholders and contributing to their successes too. Work with your peers to discover what they need to achieve and how the things you do in your role can be tweaked to bring the benefits to both of you.

So, when you are considering your SMART goals, don't just think of the "S" as Specific, but think Share too. What is it that you can Share, as part of your work this period to the benefit of colleagues and the wider business?

When you consider the "A", think Accountable as well as Achievable - what will you be accountable for as part of your Shared goals and how will your peer(s) measure you and your impact on them.

In your "R" consider the Relationship with your peers as part of what's Realistic. You need to make sure you aren't committing to something with someone, or for someone, who is going to need you to carry them, but instead collaborate effectively with you.

Finally, in your "T", Time bound thinking, what are the obstacles you are likely to face that might derail your plans - these might be things outside of your control, so work with your Coach to understand them and get ahead of them.
