Holiday Cottages Thirsk
Our cottages (Otter Cottage and Stable Cottage) are situated in the pretty village of South Kilvington, less than 1.5 miles from the quaint market town of Thirsk. These self-catering holiday cottages, offer peace, tranquillity and an excellent location from which to explore North Yorkshire.

The cottages are conveniently located close to Thirsk, a delightful market town, renowned for its connections with the famous vet and author Alf Wight, and the James Herriot museum, which covers the life and books of the author, and displays sets from the ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ television series. Thirsk’s cobbled square is surrounded by numerous tea rooms, independent shops and street markets. The town boasts a 15th Century church and a renowned racecourse.
Located between the stunning North Yorkshire Moors and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, visitors can choose from numerous attractions including Fountains Abbey, Newby Hall and Castle Howard. There are abbey ruins at Rievaulx and Byland, and theme parks at Flamingo Land and Lightwater Valley provide fun for all the family. The ancient city of York is easily accessible and fascinates all ages, with exquisite architecture, iconic minster, museums, art galleries, festivals and river boat trips.​

Otter Cottage
Sleeps 2 - Something a little different

This accommodation provides rural tranquility for those who are looking for something a little different. In this comfortable open-plan sleeping and living space, there’s room to work or create, sit back and watch TV, or simply rest and take in the environment. A modern and bright property, Otter Cottage has been converted into a comfortable and interesting place to stay. Set back and hidden behind the other village properties it has a rural appeal. This single-storey holiday cottage is well presented and is ideal for those who wish to enjoy the countryside.
The accommodation is located within the 2-acre (0.75 hectare) grounds of the owner’s home - the grounds are divided into gardens and paddocks where the owners keep their alpacas. There’s a variety of trees running to the bank of a small river (the Beck). The owners have very friendly dogs and cats, so you’ll be sharing some of the outside space. There’s a fenced garden dedicated to Otter Cottage, so you can bring your own pets. We have stables, so you could even bring your horse, if you like!

Inside, it is open plan with a good-sized sleeping and living space for 2 people. There’s a king size bed, a kitchen, dining area and relaxing lounge area. The shower room has a large shower cubicle, WC and basin. The Lounge/kitchen/diner has a reclining leather sofa, Smart TV, dining table and chairs, oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and a small washing machine. There’s central heating throughout and all fuel, power, bed linen and towels re provided. Patio with garden furniture and the use of the gardens and paddocks. Plentiful private parking for cars. Wi-Fi, ground Floor Facilities (with two steps), garden / Patio, ideal for the local golf course, pub within 500m, pet friendly.

Stable Cottage
Sleeps 2 to 4 - Comfortable and practical base
A modern and bright property; a converted stable, situated behind the other village properties near to the old mill. It is a peaceful place and all of the accommodation is on one floor. There is a garden set aside for cottage visitors - part of the larger gardens of the main house. This single-storey holiday cottage is well presented and enjoys a private garden in the owners’ grounds. Formerly a stable, the cottage now provides an extremely comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding area.
The cottage offers two bedrooms - one with double bed, one with twin beds, a fully functioning modern kitchen, dining area and relaxing lounge area. The shower room has a walk-in shower cubicle, WC, basin and heated towel rail. The Lounge/kitchen/diner has reclining leather sofas, Smart TV, DVD player, compact dining table and chairs, gas oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and washer/drier. There’s central heating throughout and all fuel, power, bed linen and towels provided. Patio with garden furniture and the use of the extensive gardens. Private parking for your car. Wi-Fi, ground Floor Facilities (no steps), ideal for the local golf course, pub within 500m, pet friendly.
